FAQ

"Who can enroll in A.C.K. Academy?"

We work with students from 3rd through 8th grade (typically starting around ages 8-9), but welcome younger students with engaged parental support.

The program involves navigating Google Classroom and attending video calls via Google Meet with mentors. Parents can assist with these technical aspects until their child is ready to manage them independently.

What truly matters is:

  • Your commitment to supporting the learning journey

  • Helping maintain consistent participation

  • Providing assistance with technology as needed

"What are SMART Worksheets"

SMART Worksheets are personalized, printable learning materials that adapt to your child's unique learning journey and are emailed to parents weekly.

These worksheets should be printed and given to your child daily (Monday to Thursday), with students committing to at least 30 minutes of focused work on each worksheet. Using a simple confidence rating system, students indicate how sure they feel about each answer, while the system tracks their actual performance. This helps identify exactly where your child needs more support or is ready for new challenges. The worksheets also use spaced repetition, strategically bring back previously learned concepts at the perfect time - just before your child might start to forget them. This ensures lasting understanding, helping your child build confidence and mastery in math at their own pace.

"Is A.C.K. Academy online or in-person?"

Our program is fully virtual to fit your family's lifestyle and helps us attract talented mentors from Columbia University.

"What role do parents play in their child's success at A.C.K. Academy?"

Parents play an important role in their child's success at A.C.K. Academy by creating a supportive and safe learning environment at home. This includes printing out their child's personalized SMART Worksheets each week and ensuring they complete and submit them daily (Monday to Thursday), spending at least 30 minutes on each worksheet. On Fridays, parents spend time reviewing Feedback Friday with their child, reviewing their progress and continuing to support their learning journey. Parents will also be emailed to schedule regular mentor video call sessions through Google Meet.

By actively participating in their child's learning journey, parents help build the foundation for lifelong learning habits.

"How is this better than a regular tutor?"

Tutors focus on homework and related tasks, but at A.C.K. Academy, we use mathematics as a tool to teach kids how to learn. Through a personalized curriculum, daily practice, and regular feedback, we guide your child to master concepts at their own pace—developing skills and habits that last a lifetime.

"Can't they just learn this in school?"

Schools don't have the resources to meet each child's unique needs or teach essential learning skills. We guide students to become independent learners - skills they'll use throughout their lives.
